Diaper- Free… Wait, What?!

Listening to Your Baby’s Potty Cues
Yes, babies communicate about more than just milk and sleep. Elimination Communication (EC) is the practice of tuning into your baby’s natural cues for peeing and pooping while offering them a chance to go in a potty, bowl, sink, or toilet.
It’s not about early “training”. It’s about connection, awareness, and respect!

What is Elimination Communication
EC is based on the idea that babies; are born with awareness of elimination, Naturally signal before they go, prefer not to soil themselves when given the opportunity. For thousands of years- and still in many cultures today- babies are supported with toileting from infancy.

Common Baby Potty Cues
Every baby is different, but you might notice: sudden stillness, fussing or grunting, turning red, pushing legs out straight, a specific cry, waking from a nap, nursing- pause- poop.
Overtime YOU learn your baby’s patterns

Realistic Expectations
EC is about offering, not forcing! You will miss cues, baby will go in the diaper, that is normal 🙂

How to start
The “Easy Catch” Times: upon waking, after bursing/feeding, before bath, before bed!
The Position: Hold baby in a supported squat over a small potty, the toilet, a bowl or sink. Support thighs against your chest.
Add a cue sound: pss, shh, a soft whistle, this will become a gentle association!

What EC is NOT
Rigid, stressful, about control, all or nothing!
you can do EC part time, use diapers as backup, skip days, start anytime!
Even 1 catch a day builds awareness.

Benefits Families Notice
Fewer diaper rashes, less poop sitting on skin, earlier body awareness, reduced diaper use, smoother toddler transition! Many parents say it deepens connection.

My Heartfelt Reminder to YOU!
You know your baby best.
EC can be intuitive, playful and deeply bonding.
There is no gold star- just connection
